Scientists at CucCAP have discovered resistance loci for Fusarium wilt race 2 in wild watermelon. A genome-wide association study on Citrullus amarus accessions has identified genomic regions associated with Fon race 2 resistance. The study also observed that prediction accuracy strongly depends on population size. These findings open up new possibilities for developing resistant watermelon varieties in the future.
