The Edisto Research and Education Center (Edisto REC) of Clemson University will host its annual Watermelon and Vegetable Field Day on July 9 in Blackville, South Carolina. This event will bring together growers, researchers, extension specialists, and industry partners for a comprehensive day focused on the latest advancements in watermelon production.
Topics to be covered include Fusarium wilt resistance breeding, spectral imaging technologies for evaluating watermelon quality, robotic precision spraying, drone applications in specialty crops, grafted watermelon production, anaerobic soil disinfestation, and demonstrations featuring 15 watermelon varieties. Attendees will also receive updates on National Watermelon Promotion Board activities and current conditions within South Carolina’s watermelon industry.
